Amahi is currently conducting private beta testing of the Home Digital Assistant, a Linux based alternative to Windows Home Server.
The Home Digital Assistant (HDA) runs on Fedora 8, and offers shared network storage, network backups, a printer server, remote access, calendaring, and a wiki.
I’ve been participating in the beta program with software I downloaded from Amahi’s web site. I went ahead and used a spare PC I had at home, but you don’t need your own hardware to participate in the beta. You can also:
- Order a free HDA with an 800Mhz processor, 256MB RAM, and 20GB hard drive. (pay shipping charges only)
- Purchase an HDA with dual Opteron processors, 2GB RAM, and your choice of hard drives ($500 plus the cost of the hard drive)
I’ve got 3 invitations available for anyone interested in participating. Just leave a comment on this post.
Up next: My initial thoughts and experience with the HDA software.

I’d love an invite
I just sent my last invitation for Amahi’s beta. Anyone else who would like to participate can request an invite here: http://www.amahi.org/signup
I’d also like an invite
Just scoped Amahi on Philip Churchill’s blog. I have several machines that would be a good candidate. Been tinkering with Red Hat 9, learning the basics and …run an RTCW game server on it too. Been fun! I’d like to try Amahi along side my WHS OEM!
Hi, I would like to try Amahi if you have space on the beta program.
Many thanks, Steve
